Join us at The National Musicians’ Church for a reflective flower laying ceremony marking the 82nd anniversary of the death of Sir Henry Wood, celebrated conductor and founder of the Promenade Concerts.
Held in the Musicians’ Memorial Chapel above his grave, the ceremony revives a tradition first proposed in 1953 by Jessie Wood, who asked that a modest tribute be placed there each year in his memory.
Sir Henry Wood was a generous benefactor to The Royal Society of Musicians, and the Henry Wood Fund, endowed in part through royalties from Serenade to Music, continues to support musicians in need today. All are welcome to join us as we honour his lasting contribution to British musical life and remember his enduring connection to the Society.
