Staying well physically, having and maintaining your physical and mental health and managing workload and pressure can be a lot to suddenly have on your plate!
This session, Physiotherapist Dr Sarah Upjohn will look at ways to support yourself as a young musician and will signpost to organisations and programmes that can help you on your way, as well as giving clear, actionable advice for young musicians.

Sarah is a Performing Arts Medicine Physiotherapist and Educator, specialising in instrumental musicians. She has extensive clinical experience treating playing-related musculoskeletal injuries and is passionate about injury prevention and promoting musculoskeletal wellbeing in musicians.
She is physiotherapist at The Purcell School for Young Musicians and Wellbeing Lead for the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain. She is also an assessing clinician and educator for BAPAM and works in private practice near Cambridge.
An experienced teacher and speaker, Sarah delivers training and wellbeing education for music schools, conservatoires, Music Hubs, orchestras and organisations including the Benedetti Foundation and Musicians’ Union.
She holds a Doctorate in Education from the University of Cambridge, with research presented at national and international conferences in physiotherapy, music education and Performing Arts Medicine.
